Captain Timber Gray Wolf

(Zachary Harker)

About Me

I am Zachary Harker, but better known as Captain Timber Gray Wolf of the Silver Moon. Though it feels like I've been a pirate all of my life, it didn't really take off till 2014. My group of re-enactors and mermaids love to educate the public about history, and historical games. As well when possible, freshwater ecology.

Our group started in freshwater ecology in 2018 at the South Haven Mermaid Megafest, working with many great mermaids and activists alike.

My strengths lay in the ability to catch and engage with my audience no matter the age; whether it be about history, maritime education, or story-telling. They enjoy every moment (as do I).

We do most of our creative work at Renaissance Faires with a Pirate Camp set up, our favorite being the Michiana Renaissance Festival. From time to time, we find ourselves at other events with the same level of energy or just dressed up in our homeport of South Haven, MI.

All I can say is, no good captain is anything without their trusted crew

Bonus bio about the “crew”

The crew of the Silver Moon was founded in 2014, by Captain Timber Gray Wolf (Zachary Harker). Many of the founding members were all college mates and relatives. The crew grew to 10 members quickly and have held the original group together even as new members joined. A number of the crew members have been live steel-trained. Even those who do not perform the shows themselves, still know sword safety. The crew joined the Brethren of the Great Lakes in 2015 and made themselves known well with the Lords of the Great Lakes.

In 2017, an opportunity opened up. While having a crew meeting (in garb) at a pub, a waitress that was a mermaid saw us and told us about a mermaid event for 2018 that they would love to have us be a part of. This event was the South Haven Mermaid Megafest. Our crew took care of everything from entertainment to security for the event and again for 2019. Unfortunately, Covid happened and the event was discontinued.

Since 2018 we have gained mermaid crew members, as a few pirates including the Captain, drank the "mermaid water". The crew has since added "keeper of mermaid secrets" to our titles as we have traveled to help other mermaid performers in tanks and photoshoots.

South Haven is one town we can dress up and wonder about any time of the year with no problem, swords and all. We do mean all year. We have helped with events even in the winter including giving out "Pirate Choice Awards" for cardboard sled races. Over the years we have volunteered our time with small events. We gladly stop and take photos with tourists and kids. (which is actually in the crew code).

After making South Haven, Michigan our home port, we started our own event called the South Haven Pirate Invasion, to take the place of the former Merfest. The year 2023 marks our 4th year of doing the event with a pub crawl, ice cream stop, photo ops, and a walk to the pier to see the sunset.

The crew is recognized for our food too. The Captain loves to cook big batches (it's best to have extra than not enough). So we share with those around us. We don't charge for it. Also, in the spirit of helping, we cover other people's booths when they are performing or need a break.
